Letters: Climate bill will do little; the right's propaganda

More windmills and solar panels to mitigate CO2 levels to reduce future climate change is akin to peeing into gale force winds vis-à-vis the prodigious swelling use of coal worldwide. Affiliated with this effort is the lack of advanced battery technology to store this carbon-free energy when winds fail and/or the sun is obscured by clouds.

Significantly unaddressed also are high levels of bird deaths inflicted by growing numbers of 400-foot-tall windmills. Some wags opine “well cats kill a lot of birds too;” offering specious justification. May we also include sea birds, hawks, condors, and eagles to the feline bird slaughters as well?

How does Biden’s new taxes on large companies to pay for this new massive climate legislation work to reduce CO2 levels worldwide, as elevated corporate taxation is merely passed on to taxpayers?

People in third-world countries are desirous of achieving western living standards. One necessary path to wealth creation is to generate substantial energy using inexpensive and abundant coal to achieve these standards.

For instance: Efforts are underway now in southern India to construct a mile-long conveyor transport in the Indian Ocean where large ocean-going ships will disgorge massive quantities of coal to an immense power plant many miles inland. Purportedly, this plant will consume coal for upwards of 30 years to generate electrical power for 70 million people in India’s Tamil Nadu state.

Data from U.S. Global Energy Monitor (GEM) reveals that there are around 200 additional coal-fired power stations presently under construction in Asia, not counting the dozens of new coal-fired power plants slated for future operation in South America, Africa and other locales.

Expenditures of hundreds of billions of U.S. taxpayer money to achieve, at best, barely measurable minuscule reductions of global temperatures by 2050 are beyond moronic.

It is sad to see so many people fall for the propaganda from the right attacking President Biden.

There is no war on fossil fuels and none of Biden’s actions have had any effect on our oil production. Google U.S. oil production and you will see that in April, May and June we pumped more oil in 2022 than in 2020.

The COVID lockdowns were state and local affairs. The vaccine mandates saved hundreds of thousands lives, as did the lockdowns. There is no good way to pull out of a war you lost. I ask those who complain if they would be willing to sacrifice one of their family to stay longer in that war. There is no “open border” policy no matter how many times the right-wing lie machine tells you there is.

Yes, it is true elections have consequences. If the people had been aware, they would not have elected the last two Republican presidents who were failed dishonest businessmen, and disasters for our country. Bush lied us into that failed war and Trump’s lies about COVID killed hundreds of thousands needlessly.

Also, I think I have the record for the number of letters from the grumpy old man. Nine that I saved and there were several before that.
